Press ReleaseJanuary 8, 2008 Insurers Set Up Toll-Free Lines to Help Consumers with Flood DamageLAS VEGAS, January 8, 2008 – Insurance companies have established toll-free telephone numbers for Nevada residents who sustained damage in the flooding that occurred last weekend. A list of companies with toll-free numbers may be found at www.nevadainsurancecouncil.com. Insurance companies are deploying adjusters from across the companies to help with the volume of claims expected in Northern Nevada. The Nevada Insurance Council, a nonprofit consumer education organization, advises those with flood damage to contact their insurance agents or insurance companies and check their homeowners and auto insurance policies to determine if flood damage is covered. Homeowners and renters policies do not cover flood damage unless flood coverage has been purchased. Damage should be reported to your insurance agent or the National Flood Insurance Program (888) CALL-FLOOD. If you are a victim of a flood, inspect your home for damage, especially for cracks in foundations. Take pictures of damaged property and keep notes. Then, contact your insurance agent. Although flood insurance is available through insurance companies, policies are underwritten and issued by the National Flood Insurance Program. For more information on how insurance works, please log on to the Nevada Insurance Council web site at www.nevadainsurancecouncil.com National Flood Insurance Program (888) CALL-FLOOD
